Celebrating four generations of Tradition!
What do you need?
French Pastry? The best Irish soda bread in the city? Or maybe Vienna Tortes that
bring the taste of Italy to Cincinnati?
Where to go?
Servatii Pastry Shop and Deli, the Italian name with the German heritage!
After forty years of explaining this cross-cultural culinary confusion, we thought
a little Servatii history may be in order. In Muenster, a small town in Northern Germany,
a bakery cart driver named Wilhelm Gottenbusch started a tradition that
transcends two continents and four generations.
His son George entered Kopling School where he became a "Konditor Meister" (Master
Pastry Chef). He opened Café Servatii, located in Germany, on Servatii Street, next
to Servatii Church.
After attending Kopling School, his son Bill set out on an adventure that saw
him travel to Australia, work as a cook on a freighter, work as an Army cook at Fort Knox, and finally
arrive in Cincinnati as a Pastry Chef. Cincinnati, with its strong baking community, demands
quality blended with tradition.
Recognized as the "Hall of Fame Bakery" in Cincinnati Magazine, the top ten from
the state of Ohio, and globally in the first world culinary competition, Bill Gottenbusch
founded a pastry shop that combines the best of American and European Styles.
Our new venture, Servatii Café at Eight Mile & Beechmont, is blend of the best of
Servatii's with a strong emphasis on providing a quality deli. It's a great place to sit, relax and enjoy!
His children work to continue the legacy. Gary, a third generation Master Certified
Baker, apprenticed in Muenster, Germany and specialized in Breads; Grace graduated
in Entrepreneurial Studies at Xavier University; and Gregory completed three years in
Muenster to receive his journeyman status in Pastry.
We invite you and your future generations to taste the tradition of Servatii's.
